What is Phased Array

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT) uses multiple piezoelectric elements with electronic beam control to perform sectorial scans, focus at specific depths, and achieve volumetric coverage superior to conventional UT.

The result: faster inspection, higher probability of detection (POD), and full digital recording — often eliminating the need for radiography.

What SimpleNDT offers

PAUT procedures per ASME Section V and PED harmonized standards. Beam plotting and custom scan plan development. Inspector qualification per SNT-TC-1A. Technical support for complex applications and result interpretation.

FAQ
Can PAUT replace radiography?+
In many applications, yes. ASME Code Case 2235 allows UT/PAUT as an alternative to RT. The advantage: no radiation, no exclusion zone, real-time results. The decision depends on the applicable code, geometry and client requirements.
What is beam plotting?+
Beam plotting is the simulation and documentation of acoustic beam coverage for your specific geometry. It ensures the scan plan actually covers 100% of the inspected volume. Without it, there is no way to prove adequate coverage.
